Pottery
Made Simple
Welcome to Bad Polo!
I'm a hobby potter, on a small farm near Edmonton. I have a goat named Polo, and he's very misbehaved. That's why my 'studio' is called Bad Polo.
I don't make hundreds of mugs, cups, or bowls at a time. I make one. Sometimes, I'll make two. That's why I don't have a lot of inventory for sale, and why I don't do sales from my website.
What I do is custom orders. If you see something you'd like, call me. Text me a picture. Ask. If I can't do it, I will let you know. Some things are just outside of my ability. I won't copy another artist's work, though. I can be inspired by it, but I won't outright make a copy.
I use clay that I buy at a local supplier (Plainsman). The durability and water-tightness of my pottery is subject to the quality of their clay. I do strive to ensure each piece is fired to the optimum temperature. I also make sure my pottery is food safe. I use a combination of commercially made glazes, as well as glazes I've made myself. I make sure that food surfaces have a durable, stable glaze. So, I might not be able to make that awesome 'peacock bowl' you saw, because I don't feel 100% certain that mixing glazes like that is 100% food safe.
Check out The Dirt tab for more information about myself and my process. Check out Burning Questions for FAQs. And check out the pictures below!
Don't be afraid to call, text or email me with any questions (see the Contact page). I don't have prices listed, because my prices are based on how much detail goes into a piece. That said, I usually sell mugs for around $10. If there's carving or art, it can go up to as much as $25. The dark lace fruit bowls are $75, because the clay doubled in cost, and so many things can go wrong in the process.
